Undergraduate Program
The Department of Secondary Education offers courses with the following prefixes: EDCT, EDES and EDSE. Undergraduate courses are those that follow the 100-499 number series.
Complete course descriptions may be found in the current University of Alberta Academic Calendar under the course listing section. NOTE: Some courses may not be offered every year. For current offerings and timetable information please search for courses by logging onto Bear Tracks. Once there you can choose to login as a guest or with a current campus computing id and password.
Students who are admitted into the Secondary Education program are required to take EDSE curriculum and instruction courses related to their major and minor subject areas.
Students registering for the first student teaching term, referred to as the Introductory Professional Term (IPT), are required to take an EDSE curriculum and instruction course in the major subject area which is offered at the 300-level.
The IPT is comprised of the following courses:
- EDFX 350 (*3)
- EDPS 310 (*3)
- EDPY 303 (*3)
- EDSE 307 (*3)
- EDSE 3XX (major) (*3)
In one of the terms that falls in between the IPT and APT students are required to take an EDSE curriculum and instruction course in the minor subject area which is offered at the 300-level.
Students registering for the second student teaching term, referred to as the Advanced Professional Term (APT), are required to take an EDSE curriculum and instruction course at the 400-level and EDSE 451. Both the EDSE 400-level course and EDSE 451 are taken in the major subject area.
The APT is comprised of the following courses:
- EDFX 450 (*9)
- EDSE 451 (major) (*3)
- EDSE 4XX (major) (*3)
